Sympathetic ganglion - histology slide

This is a histology slide of a sympathetic ganglion. The ganglion has a thick fibrous capsule. There are many multipolar neurons which are large and polygonal. They have abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm, and each is surrounded by small supporting cells. Some neurons contain brown intracytoplasmic pigment (lipofuscin). The nuclei in the stroma are those of Schwann cells which are associated with neuronal processes that do not stain with H and E.
