Hair, chinchilla

Photomicrograph of chinchilla hair.

· Diameter: very fine and uniform
· Medulla: uniserial ladder (fur hairs) (Figure 126)
· Pigment usually clumped in segments between medullary cells
· Very dense, even coat; several hairs may emanate from a single follicle; few, if any, guard hairs
